Khaalidhar Laapata (2025) – Hindi Movie Review

I was eagerly waiting to watch Khaalidhar Laapata after seeing its heartfelt trailer — and it did not disappoint. Abhishek Bachchan completely transforms into the role of Khaalidhar (K.D.), delivering one of his finest performances to date. Daivik Baghela, as the young and spirited Ballu, is equally outstanding, bringing innocence, charm, and wisdom far beyond his years.

The film tells the touching story of an unlikely friendship between a 40-year-old man battling early-stage dementia and an 8-year-old orphan boy. Fate brings them together, but it’s Ballu who becomes K.D.’s guide through life’s most essential lessons — from ticking off a bucket list to rediscovering joy, hope, and forgotten dreams.

Directed by Madhumita Sundararaman, the film is a Hindi remake of her own critically acclaimed Tamil movie KD Engira Karuppudurai (2019). She masterfully adapts the story for a North Indian setting, retaining its emotional core while introducing culturally resonant elements. One such detail is K.D.’s love for biryani — a beautiful metaphor that ties memory to flavor and heart to plate.

Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub brings gravitas in a supporting role, while Nimrat Kaur makes a brief yet memorable special appearance. Even the short romantic subplot is sweet and organically woven into the narrative.

Khaalidhar Laapata is a beautiful, emotional, and deeply human film — one of the best Hindi movies of the year, in my opinion. I’ve already watched it twice. Now streaming on ZEE5. Highly recommended.
