Flash Fiction
“Goodbye.” Said Julie.
“We’ve lived together for the past so many years. Do you think that it is necessary to part now?” asked Jack, her husband.
“It’s inevitable!” Julie said. “How true is the saying, familiarity breeds contempt. I desperately need change, Jack.”
“I respect your feelings. However, I don’t know how I’m going to live without you as I am so much used to your presence.” said Jack.
“Try, Jack, and you can lead your life without me. Soon, you’ll even forget me.” Julie said.
“It’s impossible to forget you.”
“Nothing is impossible, Jack.”
“Things are easier said than done.”
“Try, Jack.”
“Okay, I’ll try. I have left with no other option, do I ?”
“I’m sorry to say, No.”
“May I know where you are going to?”
“California. How about you?”
“No idea. One thing is sure that it will be quite far from where you are going.”
“All the best, Jack.”
“Same to you, Julie. Well, maybe we are not destined to meet again so can I have one last…”
“One last, what, Jack?”
“….one last hug before we part, please ?”
“Sure.” She said, coming forward and hugging him, while he patted on her shoulders gently and she kissed on his cheeks and whispered “Bye..” into his left ear.
He watched her walk away.
“Your passport please.” asked a stranger, smiling at her. She handed it to him, which he glanced once and returned it back to her, stepping aside.
Julie entered a room and the door shut behind her.
There was a board next to the stranger, which read “Reincarnation Chamber”.
