Among Hindu Gods, one God I had fallen in love during my childhood days was Lord Shiva. I believe in universal God, but still I was attracted towards this God who is so serene and peaceful during his meditation. However, his angry form is beyond anyone’s imagination. I remember the Shivaratri festival since those days, which is coming tomorrow. It is observed by chanting prayers, fasting and by remembering Lord Shiva, the biggest or the greatest Hindu God.

When I came to know that a series was written by Amish Tripathi – Shiva Trilogy namely three books : 1) The Immortals of Mehula, 2)The Secrets of Nagas and 3) The Oath of Vayuputras, I was sceptical to read this series for a long time. I had my own imagination and reverence of Lord Shiva. And this was purely fictionalised form of story telling which would be far from the mythology that has been preserved and passed on from generation to generation.

As many people whom I know started asking me if I had read this series? I wanted to see what this series is all about. So, I started reading this series.

As I started reading the first book, I was drawn into the story. It had the connecting dots of popular beliefs and rituals. The plot twists were also there which made it an amazing read, and sustained in my interest as the story unfolded. The good vs evil which has been there for eternity also finds a place in this series. The true and deep love between Shiva and Sati was like something breath taking, and you feel for them both, which made me to realize that this was an amazing series like say The Lord of the Rings series.

I had to keep aside whatever I had learnt through the Hindu mythology while I was reading this series as this is a fiction and like a thrilling love story between Shiva and Sati. I fell in love with Shiva a thousand times or even more while I was reading this series. Also I am looking forward to re-read it sometime once again. I had gone through various emotions while reading this series. I have to conclude that it was an amazing series depicting Hindu Gods as human beings for the sake of this fictional series.

These books gives new definition to evil. It says that extreme good turns into evil. The best part is that no one is evil in this book, everyone acts as per the situation. Only after reading this series that I started thinking about Asuras, the demons. From their point of view, they are not bad and that is the main problem. They see Gods in different shade altogether.

It is a wonderful series. I felt that last book could have been different or better. Maybe, that was the only way to conclude this amazing series.

I know God doesn’t have any form. But if I could see him once, just once then I would like to see in form of Lord Shiva, the greatest Hindu God. Yes, I have seen him many times in my dreams.
