This latest version of Rudyard Kipling’s classic stories is dark and, at times, terrifying. However, it is visually spectacular! Not only the vivid colours and textures of the jungle stand out, the voice of the characters in the movie are a perfect match. We first hear Cate Blanchett as Kaa, the ancient python in the jungle. Then Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan and my fav actor Christian Bale (Batman voice) as the growling black panther Bagheera, Naomie Harris as Nisha the mother wolf, and Peter Mullan as lead wolf Akela to mention a few.

The CGI in this movie is top notch. The other side of Matthew Rhys, who appears as the hired tiger hunter is particularly good. While Freida Pinto (SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE) appears as Mowgli’s caretaker in the man village, is simple and beautiful. Most part of the movie is engrossing from start to finish and certain scenes are scary as well. The monkeys are a kind of comic relief in otherwise serious toned movie.

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised watching the movie as I didn’t expect anything new in this movie.  The best thing about this movie is that every single character stand out. This is a very different take on the Kipling and is better of for being different.

Andy Serkis as the director does a wonderful job. Especially, with a wonderful star cast. I had to see it again for its sheer visual splendour.
