Velaikkaran (English: The Worker) is a 2017 tamil movie from the director of Thani Oruvan, Mohan Raja. This one is like a ground breaking movie for Shivkarthikeyan who had been starring in light hearted comedy movies so far. This is his first serious role and he does it well. Fahadh Faasil is a wonderful actor, I had seen some of his Malayalam movies and got impressed. Fahadh actually gives very good support to SK in this movie. And then Nayanthara is one of my fav actress. I started liking her from Raja Rani movie onwards.  She is good in the role provided to her. This is a hard hitting social thriller and the director becomes preachy to some extent to convey his point. However, the movie entertaining. The first half is good. Whereas, the second half drags a bit…it could have been bit shorter. The clash between SK and FF is really good. Reminds me of Thani Oruvan to some extent as Nayanthara is the common heroine like director between these two movies. But concept is different. The research done for this movie is real good. The movie takes a serious issue like adulterated products and presents it as sincerely as possible. Like Thani Oruvan, this movie too is about a single man’s struggle to make a change in the system. Ramji’s cinematography is too good and it takes the movie to next level. Even music and BGM is good. The plus points are relevant social message themed movie, good screen play and performances by lead actors. Technically good. Minus points are slow second half and romance which takes side track. Only one romantic track gives a glimpse of missing romance in the movie. My rating is 3.5/5.
